CrewTactics
A practical leadership and communication tool designed for ruck crews. Build leadership muscle memory through deliberate practice during training.
The Concept
CrewTactics is modeled after real military leadership development practices. Just as soldiers train with realistic scenarios, ruck leaders can develop skills through structured exercises during training rucks.
Each card presents a specific tactic focused on one of four core competencies: Leadership, Communication, Decision Making, or Adaptability. The exercises are designed to be brief (15-60 seconds), practical, and immediately applicable in the field.
The key is deliberate practice. Drawing a card isn't about entertainment—it's about intentionally developing leadership skills one small chunk at a time. Use these tactics during training rucks to build habits that transfer to real operations.

How to Use CrewTactics
During Training Rucks
- Pre-ruck briefing: Before starting, designate a leader to draw 1-3 cards for the day's training.
- Announce the tactic: Read the card aloud. Make sure everyone understands the exercise.
- Execute the exercise: Practice the tactic during the ruck. Use the prompts to guide reflection.
- Debrief: At the end of the ruck, discuss what worked, what didn't, and what was learned.
For Individual Development
- Draw a card daily and practice that tactic for one week
- Use the difficulty rating to progressively challenge yourself
- Keep a journal of insights and growth edges
- Practice with a partner and give each other feedback
For Team Leaders
- Start every training ruck with a CrewTactics exercise
- Rotate drawing responsibility to develop emerging leaders
- Connect tactics to real scenarios your team might face
- Use AARs (After Action Reviews) to deepen learning from each card
